Many people come to the UK's 'second worst seaside town' for its amazing sandy beach
South Shields, home to Sandhaven Beach, has been named the second worst seaside town in the country by the Telegraph. In its "seaside gentrification index" last year, the publication rated various beach resorts on a 100-point scale based on factors such as housing, high streets, redevelopment and conservation, and noted that the scores take into account how each place has "adapted - or not - over the past three decades."
However, many travelers admire the Sandhaven Plage. They are convinced that it is worth the 3-hour drive to see this place. And this is not the first time that this wonderful corner of the coast has been praised: in 2022, Sandhaven topped The Times' annual guide to the top 50 best beaches in the UK, the Express website writes.
Fans of Sandhaven Beach have written on the travel review site TripAdvisor about how much they love this beautiful sand.
One happy visitor from Birmingham said: "It's a nice clean beach, playgrounds with an amusement park, boat trips across from the rides and Ocean Road where you can buy all the food you need. I can't complain about anything, even the three-hour drive up north, it's worth it."
Another responded: "I had never heard of this beach until I talked to the locals in a nearby pub. What a pleasant surprise!"
