Madrid Airport plans significant expansion due to record numbers of tourists
Spain's largest airport is set to undergo a major expansion in a £2 billion project as record numbers of people visit the country, putting pressure on its infrastructure.
The new expansion will include the Adolfo Suárez-Madrid-Barajas International Airport, designed to help boost air travel in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, as reported by Express.
In addition, the expansion will also contribute to Spain's economic growth, as more planes will be able to land and more passengers will be able to pass through its doors.
Speaking about the El Diario expansion, AENA President Mauricio Lucena explained the benefits of expanding one of Europe's largest airports.
"Record numbers in air transportation are fundamental to Spain's economic and social development. We should all congratulate ourselves for them," he said.
