LYNX Transit System Honored with TSA's Top Security Award
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) awarded the Central Florida Regional Transportation Authority, known as LYNX, its Gold Standard Award on April 3. This accolade distinguishes LYNX as one of only five transit agencies in the United States to achieve the highest level of recognition for security practices this year.
The award is based on the TSA's Baseline Assessment for Security Enhancement (BASE), which examines critical security aspects of a transit agency’s operations. These include emergency preparedness, training programs, and public outreach, among others. LYNX, serving the Orlando area's over 2.3 million residents across 2,500 square miles, is recognized for its exceptional commitment to ensuring a safe and secure travel environment.
TSA's commendation underscores the effective collaboration and dedication to security between LYNX and TSA. "This Gold Standard Award honors LYNX leadership in mass transit security," said Sonya Proctor, TSA Surface Operations Assistant Administrator, highlighting the shared commitment to transportation security.
LYNX CEO, Tiffany Homler Hawkins, reflected on the significance of the recognition, emphasizing safety as a top priority for LYNX. The acknowledgment by the TSA reinforces the daily efforts to secure the transit system for riders and staff alike.
The Gold Standard Award by TSA through its BASE program annually evaluates the security measures of transit agencies nationwide. Achieving such a high score and receiving this award signifies LYNX's leadership in transit security and its unwavering commitment to providing a secure, efficient, and reliable transportation experience for the community it serves.
