Little-known artists behave horribly, while stars make their beds: former concierge dispelled the myth about celebrities in hotels
Belief in old movies and stories depicting the terrible behavior of rock stars in hotels has led to a myth surrounding famous guests and their perceived careless attitude towards property and staff. While this may have been true in the past, artists have become more conscientious in recent times.
This stereotype was debunked by Curtis Crimmins, a former concierge at five-star hotels who is now the founder of the hotel startup Roomza. Speaking with The Washington Post, the hotel expert noted that throughout his career, he has observed varying attitudes among celebrities towards property, with a trend towards improved behavior.
In his experience, in today's world, the more renowned a musician is, the cleaner the room tends to be after their departure. Conversely, lesser-known bands sometimes exhibit extremely poor behavior.
For instance, Crimmins recounted an incident where the hotel he worked at had to clean the carpets after a band, experiencing newfound fame, spilled a glass of saliva from chewing tobacco on the floor.
However, Grammy winners and other well-known guests did not hesitate to tidy up after themselves, including making their beds and leaving their rooms in good order.
So, to summarize, famous rockers and rappers in the past may have indeed indulged in room-smashing antics, but this trend has largely faded away.
According to the expert, there is now a global trend towards healthy living and environmental friendliness. As a result, hotel staff are now treated with respect, and the notion of breaking dishes and tearing sheets is no longer seen as cool among celebrities.
