Lake District: tourists by car are asked to make a request
Tourists planning to visit the Lake District this year are urged to leave their cars at home. This conscious decision will reduce not only noise but also the impact on the environment.
This picturesque region, which receives more than 15 million visitors annually, is at risk of being overwhelmed by an excessive number of tourists, Express writes. Traffic congestion, engine noise, pollution, and high prices are becoming a growing problem for locals.
Jerry Rebbeck, owner of Wheelwrights, a vacation rental company, recommends that travelers explore the Lake District without a car.
"There are many ways to travel in the Lake District without a car. Biking and walking from place to place is one of the best ways to see the park while also reducing traffic congestion. There are many places to rent a bike if you don't have your own," he said.
For those who do decide to travel by car because they have no other choice, Jerry reminds them to follow the rules of the road: be aware of the speed limit and the environment.
Supporting local businesses is another way to reduce the negative impact of tourism.
"While it may be tempting to hit up a store or chain restaurant you know while on vacation, supporting local businesses is a great way to directly help the local economy," advises Jerry.
The Lake District is famous for its culinary delights: Cumberland sausage, Kendal mint cake, or sticky toffee pudding. Profits from local businesses will allow the region to develop and become better.
As previously reported by TravelWise, experts have named a new lake that offers all the beauty of the famous Italian Como, but a vacation here is cheaper.
