Kenya is preparing to auction off 92 airplanes if their owners do not claim them
The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has warned that up to 92 aircraft located at various airports in the country will be auctioned if their owners fail to settle overdue payments and pick them up within 30 days.
The information was made public in an announcement that appeared in The Kenya Gazette, as reported by Simple Flying. Similar auctions have been held previously to sell airplanes that were idle at the country's airports.
KAA has identified 92 aircraft that may be put up for sale, providing details on the type, registration, and last known operators.
Among them are aircraft used by the national carrier Kenya Airways. All potential lots are currently located at four different airports: Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta (NBO), Wilson (WIL), Malindi (MYD), and Lokichojo (LKG).
The announcement is in line with Kenyan law, which grants the right to dispose of goods if they are not picked up within a certain period.
According to the new announcement, KAA is requesting aircraft owners to pick up the aircraft by February 18, 2024; otherwise, they will be put up for sale. The proceeds will be used to cover all debts, and the balance will be transferred to the owner.
