Jet2 criticizes 'disgraceful' passenger after diverting flight to Tenerife and calling police
Flight LS727 took off from Edinburgh Airport at 8:15 am and was supposed to fly to Tenerife South Airport. Jet2 called the passenger "disgraceful" after the flight was forced to divert due to his aggressive behavior.
The video, which appeared on the Internet, shows a restless passenger, probably intoxicated, stumbling in the aisle of the plane while stewards are trying to resolve the situation. The flight was forced to return to Porto Santo so that the police could pick up the passenger, express.co reports.
Later, the video shows several Portuguese officers taking the man off the plane, while other passengers applaud, clap, and chant "cheerio".
One eyewitness said the man "acted like a madman" and "hung up as soon as we took off." Another added: "He looked absolutely exhausted."
Another passenger on the flight commented: "What a start to our vacation! Jet2 staff handled the situation very well!"
Another video circulating online shows a man exiting the plane after being escorted by five officers through the middle aisle.
Passengers applaud as he is escorted off, and one of them shouts: "Welcome back, have a safe trip back."
A Jet2 spokesperson said: "Flight LS727 from Edinburgh to Tenerife was diverted to Porto Santo to allow the police to disembark a disruptive passenger. The passenger in question was behaving in a disgraceful manner and as a family airline, we have zero tolerance for such behavior. Our colleagues and customers should never have to face this kind of behavior and we would like to thank the team for the way they handled this difficult situation. We will fully support the authorities in any further investigation and will not hesitate to compensate for any losses incurred as a result of this sabotage."
Earlier, TravelWise reported that a window of an Alaska Airlines plane flew out during the flight.
