Japan Airlines to Update Fuel Charges for Summer 2024
Japan Airlines (JAL) is set to increase the fuel surcharges for international flights scheduled between June and July 2024. This change is due to the recent rise in the cost of jet fuel. The average price of jet fuel for February and March was USD 102.81 per barrel, leading to an adjustment in surcharge rates.
What’s Changing?
From June 1, 2024, passengers flying with JAL will see slight increases in the additional fees added to their ticket prices to cover fuel costs. Here’s a breakdown of the changes:
- Flights from Japan to Korea and parts of Russia will now have a surcharge of 4,000 Yen, up from 3,500 Yen.
- Tickets to East Asia, excluding Korea and Mongolia, will increase from 8,500 Yen to 9,200 Yen.
- Journeys to places like Guam, Palau, and parts of Southeast Asia will see an increase from 11,000 Yen to 12,000 Yen.
- Flights to Thailand, Malaysia, and nearby countries will see a small rise from 18,000 Yen to 18,500 Yen.
- Trips to Hawaii and countries like India and Sri Lanka will cost 22,500 Yen in fuel surcharges, up from 21,000 Yen.
- Longer flights to North America, Europe, and other distant regions will have their surcharges increased from 33,000 Yen to 35,000 Yen.
What Does This Mean for You?
If you’re planning to travel with Japan Airlines during this time, you might need to budget a bit more for your tickets due to these increased surcharges. JAL adjusts these fees to keep up with the changing costs of jet fuel, which can vary greatly.
