Japan Airlines Collision at Haneda Airport: An Update on Passenger Injuries
In a serious incident on January 2, 2024, Japan Airlines Flight 516 collided with a Japan Coast Guard aircraft on the runway of Tokyo International Airport (Haneda Airport), leading to several passenger injuries. The collision occurred on a Tuesday evening around 17:47 JST, immediately after Flight JL516, operating from New Chitose Airport to Haneda Airport, made its landing. Newly confirmed injuries from the accident include one person with a rib fracture, one with shin bone contusion, one with a sprain, and another with bruising. Additionally, 12 passengers experienced a decline in physical condition, prompting visits to medical facilities.
The aircraft involved, an Airbus A350-900 with the registration number JA13XJ, was declared a total loss. Despite technical difficulties with the aircraft’s announcement system during the evacuation, the cabin crew managed to safely evacuate all passengers and crew members using megaphones and verbal instructions. Evacuation was executed through three emergency exits, ensuring the safety of everyone onboard.
