Despite the fact that vacation is a long-awaited event for almost everyone, research shows that a significant number of people do not spend this time to their full potential. According to a OnePoll study for Hilton, 47% of people spend only two or more days to truly relax during their vacation.
This is due to the fact that traveling is often quite stressful, and it takes some time to adjust to the environment. At the same time, 39% of people said they could not relax abroad because they were still distracted by home worries, Nuffingtonpost writes.
In addition, the study shows that another 30% worry about their previous job while on vacation, and 29% worry about the job they will return to. Also, 11% of vacationers say they suffer from separation from their pets during their annual vacation.
Experts advise spending the precious days of your vacation enjoying the trip to the fullest, as a quick transition to vacation mode means you can make the most of your trip and leave the worries of home life behind, at least for a short time.
According to the study, 30% of travelers said they can switch to vacation mode when they arrive at their destination, but for others it may happen a little earlier. At least 16% of people will feel it when they turn on their out-of-towner notifications and 12% will feel it when they finish packing for vacation.
Incredibly, a person can tune into vacation mode while still at home. Vacation sounds are known to have a positive effect on a person's state of mind: for example, the first splash in the pool, unzipping a suitcase, and walking on the sand.
"The impact of everyday sounds on our levels of relaxation and well-being has been a subject of growing scientific interest, especially over the past few years. It's no surprise that the sounds we typically associate with vacations can help bring people closer to their desired feelings of rest and relaxation even before they arrive at their destinations," the experienced psychologists add.
