ITA Airways has been honored with the esteemed designation of "Fastest Growing Airline in Western Europe" at the annual Airline Marketing Workshop held in Athens, organized by the Athens International Airport.
The Airline Marketing Workshop, a significant event gathering key figures in the aviation sector, delves into industry challenges and advancements. Each year, airlines showcasing remarkable performance in the preceding year are recognized across various categories. This year's event saw the presence of executives from Athens International Airport, ACI Europe, Greek Authorities, and distinguished speakers from the aviation realm and beyond.
ITA Airways clinched the title of "Fastest Growing Airline" owing to its outstanding performance in 2023, surpassing other carriers in Western Europe. The award was presented to ITA Airways' local team in Athens during the ceremony held in the Greek capital.
Emiliana Limosani, Chief Commercial Officer of ITA Airways and CEO of Volare, expressed pride in receiving the recognition, citing it as motivation to strive for further excellence. Limosani highlighted ITA Airways' exceptional achievements, including surpassing operational breakeven in 2023, a year ahead of projections. Furthermore, the airline witnessed a 50% increase in passengers carried, with the intercontinental segment doubling its passenger count and achieving positive earnings after just one and a half years of full operations.
Looking ahead, ITA Airways aims to enhance connectivity between Athens and Rome Fiumicino, offering three daily flights which will increase to four starting June 1st. Additionally, during the peak summer season, ITA Airways plans to introduce 11 seasonal connections to popular Mediterranean destinations, including Greece, Spain, Croatia, and various Italian islands.
In Summer 2024, ITA Airways will operate flights to a total of 57 destinations, comprising 16 domestic, 26 international, and 15 intercontinental routes. The airline's expansion into long- and medium-haul routes continues, with new direct flights from Rome Fiumicino to North America, Africa, and the Middle East. In April, ITA Airways will inaugurate a direct route to Chicago, followed by Toronto and Riyadh in May. Subsequent months will see the introduction of flights to Accra, Kuwait City, Dakar, and Jeddah.
These new intercontinental destinations complement ITA Airways' existing long-haul routes to major cities like New York, Boston, Miami, Los Angeles, and various others, solidifying its position as a premier carrier facilitating quality connectivity between Italy and the rest of the world.
