IndiGo reduced ticket prices due to a decrease in fuel costs
The Indian airline IndiGo has eliminated fuel surcharges from its airfares, making flights more affordable starting from January 4th of this year.
The airline had introduced an additional fee to raise ticket prices due to a significant increase in fuel costs last year. According to Simple Flying, the situation was resolved in 2024, allowing IndiGo to remove the fuel surcharge.
The reduction in ticket prices will apply to both international and domestic flights.
"As ATF prices are dynamic, we will continue to adjust our fares and their components to respond to any changes in prices or market conditions," the statement said.
Fuel prices began to rise around September last year when the cost of a barrel increased by 10% to $131 over the month. To avoid financial difficulties, the company raised ticket prices to protect profits, which is a standard practice for many companies facing rising costs.
In 2024, the price of fuel declined, prompting IndiGo to reevaluate and lower its prices.
Previously, passengers had to pay an additional 300 Indian rupees ($3.60) for flights up to 500 kilometers. For longer flights covering more than 3,501 kilometers, they had to pay an additional 1,000 Indian rupees or $12.
