In Scotland, bus and stagecoach will run free of charge on weekends
First Bus and Stagecoach will be offering free rides across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire every weekend during January. This decision was made to encourage people to use buses and increase the flow of people to Aberdeen.
What is the result of this innovation and how do directors of transport companies comment on it? Stv News has the answers to these questions.
First Bus and Stagecoach offer to take advantage of a free trip around Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. This is possible every weekend in January.
Both travel companies said they will "reinvest the savings" from the introduction of new bus gates that do not allow vehicles to enter certain roads. Drivers can be fined £60 ($76.29) for doing so.
Both carriers say they are satisfied with the scheme and urge the authorities to keep it up and introduce more such proposals.
Graeme Macfarlane, commercial director of First Bus Scotland, said:
"We're delighted to be able to offer free travel on all First Bus routes in Aberdeen throughout January. Reliable and affordable transport is a cornerstone of any city's success and we will continue to play our part alongside our investment in zero emission vehicles, nearly 50 of which are now operating across the city every day."
David Beaton, Managing Director of Stagecoach North Scotland, commented:
"This initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to work together as local public transport providers to secure a prosperous future for Aberdeen."
