Japan will introduce a fee for climbing Mount Fuji and limit the number of tourists who can do it at the same time.
Starting this summer, no more than 4,000 people a day will be able to hike the Yoshida trail. Climbing will be prohibited from 16:00 to 2:00, and a fee will be introduced for the climb itself, as reported by Japan Times.
The ticket price is not yet known; the authorities will decide on it in February. The new rules will take effect on July 1, 2024.
Since 2014, the fee for climbing Mount Fuji has been charged only on a voluntary basis. Tourists are encouraged to donate 1,000 yen ($7) to preserve the site.
