IHG Hotels & Resorts Introduces New Suite Prototype Variations with Enhanced Flexibility
A company with over 6,300 hotels under 19 global brands,IHG Hotels & Resorts (IHG) announces the availability of new prototype options for its three suite brands - Staybridge Suites, Candlewood Suites, and Atwell Suites. By expanding design choices, IHG provides greater flexibility for developers across different site configurations and market types, while maintaining the guest experiences in the rapidly growing suite segment.
The new options emphasize space optimization and the potential for new efficiencies, while retaining the key features of current designs. These variations complement existing options for all three brands and offer owners and developers additional flexibility to find the best fit for their market and site, including new construction, conversion, dual brands, or adaptive property reuse.
Specific dimensions and exact key counts will vary for each property and brand. However, the priority is to retain the recognizable and guest-loved characteristics of the brand, including ample storage in rooms, kitchen spaces, and common dining areas.
Key components of the new design options include:
- Staybridge Suites: The introduction of the new Smart Studio room configuration allows developers to include narrow rooms (reduced from 16' to 13'). These guest suites further optimize space with streamlined kitchen equipment and fixed kitchen furniture, while maintaining designated work, sleep, and relaxation zones for a comfortable residential-style stay.
- Candlewood Suites: The Beacon 4.2 variation expands by increasing building density. With reduced room sizes and retention of the brand's key features, such as fully equipped kitchens and specified social spaces, these suites promise maximum space utilization and guest comfort.
- Atwell Suites: Developers can now choose between two lobby configurations for Atwell Suites properties, with a new single-story centrally loaded model available alongside the existing two-story end-loaded design. The additional narrow room option (12'6" instead of 16'8") includes a wet bar, sofa, and work desk, allowing for the addition of up to 12 keys on similarly sized properties.
The new prototype options will be available by the second quarter of 2024, with the first properties featuring them expected to open as early as 2025. Currently, the designs will only be available for U.S. properties, but they allow for potential future adoption in Canada, the Caribbean, and Latin America.
With over 700 global properties - almost all in the Americas - for its three suite brands, IHG remains a proven segment leader. While Staybridge Suites celebrated its 25th anniversary last December, Candlewood Suites' expansion in 2023 in Salt Lake City and Houston expanded its reach to over 520 open or pipeline properties in the Americas since its debut in 1996. Atwell Suites opened its third U.S. property in Austin, Texas, earlier this month, joining hotels in Denver and Miami.
