IHG Hotels & Resorts: A Leader in LGBTQ+ Workplace Equality
In a landmark achievement, IHG Hotels & Resorts (IHG), a globally renowned hotel company, has secured a perfect score of 100 on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s 2023-2024 Corporate Equality Index (CEI). This prestigious index serves as an international benchmark, assessing corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ+ workplace equality. Remarkably, IHG has consistently earned this top rating for the ninth consecutive year in the United States and the third time in Mexico.
The Corporate Equality Index evaluates companies based on four crucial pillars: nondiscrimination policies across business entities, equitable benefits for LGBTQ+ workers and their families, fostering an inclusive culture, and corporate social responsibility. IHG's commitment to these principles reflects its dedication to providing an inclusive and supportive environment for its LGBTQ+ employees.
IHG's global efforts in the past year showcase its commitment to diversity and inclusion. The Out & Open Employee Resource Group has provided a platform for employees to engage in LGBTQ+ conversations and activities, supporting local LGBTQ+ communities. Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, an IHG brand, has long supported The Trevor Project, focusing on suicide prevention and support for the LGBTQ+ community.
IHG’s support extends to local Pride celebrations worldwide, sponsoring events such as London’s 50th Pride anniversary, the Atlanta Pride Festival for over 15 years, and the first-time sponsorship of Pride in Guadalajara, Mexico – the headquarters of its Latin American operations.
The company also offers a range of benefits in the United States to support diverse needs, including medical plans for same- and opposite-sex spouses, family programs for parents and caregivers, fertility assistance coverage, surrogacy assistance reimbursement, and adoption support reimbursement.
Rani Hammond, SVP, HR, Americas, IHG Hotels & Resorts, emphasized the centrality of inclusivity to IHG’s culture. Hammond stated, “Providing room to belong is core to IHG’s culture. Our business is about people, and we've created a diverse and inclusive environment valued by guests, owners, and our talented team. Earning the CEI top score reflects our dedication to LGBTQ+ workplace equality."
IHG’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is part of its Journey to Tomorrow 2030 responsible business plan. This plan outlines aspirations for gender balance in leadership, inclusion, and respect for human rights. IHG remains steadfast in making a positive impact on its people, communities, and the planet.
