Icelandair is taking significant strides in elevating the in-flight experience for its passengers by partnering with Viasat for high-speed in-flight connectivity (IFC) on its forthcoming Airbus A321LR jets. This strategic move ensures that the Icelandic carrier's customers will enjoy unparalleled internet access, capable of supporting data-intensive activities such as streaming entertainment and live TV.

Scheduled for delivery in the final quarter of 2024, these new Airbus planes are a testament to Icelandair's commitment to integrating cutting-edge technology for passenger comfort and satisfaction. The collaboration with Viasat, a leading name in aviation WiFi solutions, underscores the airline's dedication to offering state-of-the-art connectivity onboard. Viasat's satellite connectivity solution promises a robust, high-bandwidth internet service, setting a new standard in passenger experience for Icelandair's A321 fleet.

Helga Huld Bjarnadóttir, Icelandair's Director of Product and Service Management, emphasizes the airline's focus on enhancing the in-flight experience through advanced WiFi services. She remarks on the importance of reliable and fast connectivity as a core aspect of Icelandair's service offerings, highlighting Viasat's role as a key partner in achieving this goal. With an eye on future expansions, the airline anticipates continuing this fruitful partnership, bringing superior in-flight WiFi to more aircraft in its fleet.

Viasat's innovative approach to managing network demand ensures a consistent and high-quality connection for all passengers, even during peak usage times. By leveraging its KA-SAT satellite over Europe and ViaSat-2 in the US and over Iceland, Viasat guarantees an efficient and reliable internet service. Moreover, the upcoming launch of the ViaSat-3 satellite network in 2025 promises even faster speeds, further enhancing the in-flight experience on Icelandair flights.

In a parallel development, Icelandair has also selected Pratt & Whitney's GTF engine for its A321LR and A321XLR fleet, demonstrating the airline's commitment to operational excellence and reliability. This decision, coupled with the Viasat partnership, positions Icelandair as a forward-thinking carrier, ready to meet the evolving demands of modern travelers.

As Icelandair prepares to welcome its new Airbus aircraft, starting with the leased A321LRs this year and extending to the A321XLRs in 2029, passengers can look forward to a significantly improved travel experience. The airline's initiative to offer high-speed, reliable WiFi, alongside its strategic fleet and engine choices, underscores its dedication to providing exceptional service and connectivity to passengers flying between Europe and North America.
