Funds have been allocated in the EU for the modernization of the international railway in Warsaw
The European Commission has approved the allocation of funds to Poland for the modernization of the intercity railway in Warsaw. Thus, the country will receive over 425 million euros from the Cohesion Fund to finance the first phase of work.
This amount is intended to cover the costs of modernizing tracks, electrification, telecommunications equipment, as well as water supply and sewage. Railway Gazette reported that this funding will also be used for repairing existing stations and constructing subways and pedestrian bridges.
It is noted that such an upgrade will enable passenger trains to travel at speeds of up to 160 km/h and reduce maintenance costs.
According to Cohesion and Reform Commissioner Elisa Ferreira, the new infrastructure will improve conditions for people with disabilities, increase capacity, and have no impact on the environment by reducing noise and air pollution.
"Modernized rail lines and stations in Warsaw will also improve Poland's rail connections with the rest of the EU, contributing to further integration of regions across Europe," said Elisa Ferreira.
