The floating pool in New York: when it will appear and what it will look like
New York State Governor Kathy Hochul has announced her support for a plan to build a floating pool. For the first time in a long time, the +POOL initiative has received a significant financial boost in the form of a promised $12 million in state funding.
It is a cross-shaped self-cleaning pool in the New York City waterways. According to the website, the +POOL project will also receive $4 million from the city of New York.
"We are now aiming to install the first version of +POOL in New York City in the summer of 2024," the statement says.
However, as ABC News reports, a "demo" version will be tested this summer, and a fully operational swimming pool is scheduled to open to the public in the summer of 2025.
"+POOL is not just an idea, not just a pool. We're committed to restoring New York's natural resources by opening up our waters," the company said on Instagram.
The state's governor also supported the initiative to build other new pools and hire more lifeguards to invest in public health. With the new public pools, more children will have the opportunity to improve their health and learn to swim in the summer.
