FlixBus is testing electric buses between London and Wales
Electric vehicles are gaining popularity around the world, with electric coaches already appearing. Flix has announced the launch of a pilot project for the first 100% electric intercity bus in England and Wales.
As early as March, travelers will be able to test the electric bus on the FlixBus route from London and Bristol in England and to Newport in South Wales. The three-month trial of the FlixBus intercity bus network with partner operator Newport Transport will be conducted on a 46-seat Yutong electric bus, writes Electrive.
Ticket prices for the electric bus will start at just £2.99. The Yutong electric bus includes a toilet, USB charging points, and free Wi-Fi for all customers.
The Yutong TCe12 electric bus, which will now run between England and Wales, has a maximum power output of 350 kW with a water-cooled motor and its own radiator. The water-cooled lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries from Chinese battery giant CATL, with a total capacity of 281 kWh, are supplied in 10 separate modular kits.
The electric bus is said to allow operators to travel more than 200 miles (approximately 322 kilometers) on a full charge. The electric bus is the UK's first zero-emission intercity bus to receive ULEB certification in 2020. Earlier, Flixbus tested interregional bus transportation in Portugal in 2022 with Yutong electric buses.
Flixbus is a pioneer in zero-emission interregional transportation. The passenger transportation provider has also turned to Freudenberg and ZF to develop hydrogen buses for long-distance transportation.
"This is a huge step forward for the UK coach sector, transforming an already low-carbon mode of transport to zero emissions through innovative technology," said Andreas Schorling, Managing Director of FlixBus UK.
As reported on the TravelWise website, interesting rail routes around the world are opening in 2024.
