FiturNext 2024: A New Dawn in Tourism for Territorial Revitalisation
The upcoming FiturNext 2024, part of the Madrid International Tourism Trade Fair, is poised to set a new precedent in tourism's role in combating depopulation and revitalising rural areas. Over four days, from 24 to 28 January, this event, organised in collaboration with Ideas for Change, will feature a comprehensive agenda filled with insightful presentations, discussions, and workshops.
Kicking off on 24 January, the programme begins with an official opening, followed by the presentation of the 'FiturNext 2024 Report,' which sheds light on the implementation of effective tourism strategies for regional revitalisation. This is succeeded by the much-anticipated 'FiturNext 2024 replicable initiatives' awards ceremony, recognising pioneering projects like Genalguacil (Museum Village), Recartografías, and the Camino del Cid.
A highlight of the event includes the endorsement from Enrique Tomás, a world-renowned ham marketer. Enrique Tomás will unveil an innovative project intertwining the allure of Spanish ham with sustainable tourism, promoting Spanish culture and environmental respect.
The subsequent days feature various round tables and dialogues focusing on strategies against depopulation, public and local policies, and the intersection of tourism with technology, culture, and agriculture. Notably, discussions will revolve around film tourism, a unique approach to revitalising 'Empty Spain,' and the integration of technology in combating rural depopulation.
Keynote sessions like 'Tourism and Rural Development' by Antonio López de Ávila from UNWTO and Enrique Martínez Marín's insights on agrotourism experiences promise to offer new perspectives on rural tourism.
This event offers a unique perspective on the evolving landscape of sustainable tourism. It demonstrates how their travel choices can contribute to important global issues like rural revitalisation and sustainability. It's not just about reaching a destination; it's about understanding the impact of their travel on local communities and environments.
The final day, dedicated to a university workshop by Smart Tourism Hub, culminates the event, marking a significant step towards a more responsible and sustainable future in tourism. FiturNext 2024 stands as a beacon of hope and innovation, highlighting tourism's potential as a force for good in tackling pressing demographic challenges and promoting the rejuvenation of rural territories.
