Meetings with relatives and delicious food: a countryside pub in North Yorkshire took first place in the country for Sunday Roast
A countryside pub in North Yorkshire, just 40 minutes from Middlesbrough, has been recognized as the best place for Sunday Roast in the country. The historic 19th-century inn, now transformed into a relaxed country pub, offers stunning views of Byland Abbey.
The Abbey Inn in Byland was voted the best spot for Sunday dinner by Rate Good Roasts, as reported by Yorkshire Live. The Teesside Live notes that the team was impressed by the taste of the dishes.
Every year, the team from the viral Instagram account travels around the country, sampling Sunday meals in search of the best. They claim to have tasted approximately 200 dishes to compile their annual top 10 list.
The Rate Good Roast team evaluates each dish based on ten categories: meat, vegetables, side dish, location, drinks, value, potatoes, gravy, service, and Yorkshire puddings. Last year, The Hawthorne in Haworth shared first place with Manchester's Ducie Street Warehouse.
However, this year, Yorkshire once again took the lead, with The Abbey Inn in Byland, North Yorkshire, clinching the top spot. The Whitehall in Leeds also made the list, tying for eighth place with Jones & Sons x Madame Pigg in Dalston.
Tom Casson, Chief Food Officer at Rate Good Roasts, commented, "There's something romantic about Sunday Roast. It's an event. Whether it's a chance to catch up with old friends or a family celebration, you don't want to be disappointed. You want a special dish on the specials board (lamb or porchetta) and a creative main option for our vegetarian or vegan friends. Personally, I expect the Yorkshire puddings to be big enough to hold gravy."
