Emirates SkyCargo Leads Forward-Thinking Discussion on Air Freight's Role in Global Trade
In a pivotal gathering on the sidelines of the 13th World Trade Organisation Ministerial Conference (WTO MC13) in Abu Dhabi, UAE, Emirates SkyCargo convened a high-level dialogue on the evolving landscape of logistics, world trade, and the hurdles confronting international supply chains. This event, hosted in collaboration with the UAE Ministry of Economy and the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED), attracted industry stalwarts to deliberate on pressing issues and the transformative potential within global logistics.
Titled "Security, Sustainability, and Digitalisation: A New Era for Trade and Cargo," the forum, orchestrated by Economist Impact, navigated the complex pathways of modern trade, where goods worth trillions circulate globally every day. Amidst a backdrop of geopolitical shifts and a clarion call for sustainable practices, the discourse ventured into how technological innovation and security measures are becoming indispensable for crafting resilient and efficient supply chains, with air freight playing a crucial role.
His Excellency Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, UAE's Minister of State for Foreign Trade and the chair of MC13, emphasized the critical juncture at which the global trade community stands regarding technological adoption. Highlighting the Trade-Sustain-AI initiative, he pointed out the integral role of emerging technologies like artificial intelligence in enhancing supply chain operations, weather prediction, and inventory management, all while advancing a greener trading ecosystem.
The event featured Simon Evenett, a renowned trade expert and professor at the University of St Gallen, as the keynote speaker, laying the groundwork on the interplay between trade, investment, and geopolitics. This was followed by a fireside chat and a panel discussion with luminaries from leading global organizations, discussing the future prospects of global trade.
Panelists included Marion Jansen from the OECD, Pierre Sauve from the World Bank, Lisa Schroeter from Dow Chemical, and Nabil Sultan from Emirates SkyCargo, sharing insights into the anticipated shifts in global trade dynamics. Emirates SkyCargo, with nearly four decades of facilitating global commerce, reflects Dubai's D33 Economic Agenda's ambition, aiming to bolster trade flows and forge new business avenues across its extensive network spanning over 140 destinations.
