Efficient development: How public transport is changing the image of Abu Dhabi
The number of public transport passengers is growing in the United Arab Emirates. In particular, in Abu Dhabi, the number of people who use public transport on a daily basis has set a record high.
This number has exceeded 245,000 for the first time, according to Gulf News. Moreover, this figure represents an increase of about 45 percent since 2019 when the number was relatively low - 170,000.
According to local authorities, their vision is to improve the living conditions in the emirate of Abu Dhabi with a safe and efficient public transportation system that supports its economic development, as well as stability and quality of life.
It is specified that in recent years, public transport buses have been in growing demand from the public due to the quality of their services, the integration of their routes and the diversification of transportation options. This allows passangers to reach various destinations easily, quickly, safely and comfortably.
This was also influenced by the recent decision to unify the fare for public transport buses at AED 2. It is emphasized that this will help encourage people to use mass transit. The purpose of unifying the fare is to cover a wider geographical area with a reduced and simple fare system.
It is emphasized that in 2023, many projects were launched in the UAE, including a public transport system vehicle on the island of Abu Dhabi. The pilot phase of the project began with the operation of long tram buses operating in the transportation system without tram or rail tracks. The pilot phase includes 25 stations on a route of about 27 km.
In addition, there are plans to modify and improve public transport bus services and routes in the city of Abu Dhabi and its suburbs. The improvements include providing buses with a limited number of stops along Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Road, which is the L41, L42 and L43 route, to reduce travel time between downtown Abu Dhabi and high-demand areas on Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Street, the capital.
