East Midlands Airport Drop-Off Jumps to £8 for 10 Minutes
East Midlands Airport has raised the price of its terminal-side Rapid Drop-Off zone, with drivers now paying £8 for up to 10 minutes from 3pm on 29 September. The previous charge was £5 for 15 minutes. The airport says the increase reflects higher costs and investment requirements, while the closest free option remains available in Long Stay 2 for stays of up to one hour.
The Rapid Drop-Off lane is barrierless, so drivers do not pay at the exit. Vehicle registrations are recorded by ANPR and the charge must be paid online, by automated phone service or through AutoPay by 23:59 the following day. Missing the deadline can trigger a £100 Parking Charge, reduced to £60 if paid within 14 days. Stays beyond 30 minutes can also lead to enforcement.

Short Stay 1 is the better-value choice for anyone who needs time to unload luggage, accompany a passenger or meet someone inside the terminal, as 30 minutes costs £6. Drivers who do not need to stop beside check-in can use Long Stay 2 without paying for the first hour. East Midlands Airport advises checking its current pick-up and drop-off options before setting off, as parking arrangements can change.
The new tariff makes Rapid Drop-Off a premium option rather than the default choice for every airport run. Anyone making a quick handover outside the terminal may still prefer it, but longer goodbyes are cheaper elsewhere. Regular users may also find AutoPay useful because it takes the charge automatically after each visit, reducing the risk of forgetting the payment deadline and receiving a penalty.
