Earthquake in Japan already killed 126 people: Search operations continue
Since January 1, 2024, dozens of earthquakes of varying magnitude have occurred in Japan, with the strongest one, with a magnitude of 7.6, recorded in Ishikawa Prefecture. As of January 6, at least 126 people were reported dead and more than 500 injured.
In the regions most affected by the earthquakes, houses were destroyed and roads used to deliver aid to the victims were damaged, the Associated Press reports.
It is now known that 126 people have died as a result of the earthquakes and the destruction they caused. Among them is a five-year-old boy from Ishikawa: doctors vigorously fought for his life. On Friday, January 5, the child's condition suddenly deteriorated and he died.
The largest number of deaths occurred in the city of Wajima: 69 victims were reported there. The earthquakes in Suzu claimed 38 lives.
Japanese officials have warned that the continuation of the earthquakes puts roads that have already been severely damaged at risk of complete collapse. The situation is further complicated by the deteriorating weather conditions: rain and snow are forecast for western Japan on Sunday.
