Due to damaged tracks in Great Britain, train services have been suspended
Early on Monday, March 4th, rail traffic on one of the UK's busiest lines was disrupted due to a severe track failure. This caused inconvenience for thousands of passengers traveling between Woking and London Waterloo station.
According to initial reports, the disruption occurred when a train struck an unidentified object on the tracks, as reported by The Independent. South Western Railways (SWR) announced the suspension of rail services and advised passengers to seek alternative routes.
National Rail Enquiries confirmed the situation, stating: "All lines are blocked due to a serious track issue at Walton-on-Thames. Passengers are advised not to travel as no services are currently operational."
A spokesperson for SWR stated: "At approximately 5:50 am, a South Western Railway train traveling to London Waterloo collided with an obstruction in the Walton-on-Thames area."
Fortunately, no passengers were injured. Passengers were asked to disembark while an investigation and repair work were underway.
"A preliminary examination revealed that the train's front wheels had derailed. Significant time will be required to repair the tracks. We apologize for any inconvenience caused. Further information regarding repair progress and service resumption will be provided later," SWR stated in a release.
The disruption is expected to persist until the end of the day.
As previously reported by TravelWise, a few months ago, a tunnel near London flooded, leaving the British stuck at the station.
