China extends visa-free regime for Hainan: it has paid off
China's recent expansion of visa-free entry to Hainan Province for visitors from 59 countries has proved successful, attracting a significant flow of tourists to the tropical island.
Since February 9, when citizens from 59 countries were allowed up to 30 days of visa-free entry to Hainan for business, visits, family reunions, medical treatment, exhibitions and sports events, the number of visitors has been growing, China Daily reports.
According to the Haikou Exit and Entry Border Inspection General Station, more than 101,000 visitors from overseas arrived in Hainan from February 9-25, of whom about half did so without visas.
The main sources of tourists were Russia, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Malaysia, and Singapore.
