Lumo will launch its new rail service between London Euston and Stirling on 25 May, adding a cheaper long-distance option between England and Scotland. Tickets for the full 400-mile journey will start at £29.90. The operator says services are being released for sale in phases, with the full timetable expected to be available from 27 July.

The new route will call at Milton Keynes, Nuneaton, Crewe, Carlisle, Lockerbie, Motherwell, Whifflet, Greenfaulds and Larbert. Lumo will also add a fifth return service between London Euston and Preston. Tickets will start at £23.90 for London to Preston, while Preston to Stirling fares will begin at £14.90.

“This is a very exciting moment in our journey to launching a pioneering new service for the West Coast. Customers can look forward to simple, low-cost fares with an excellent experience on our services between Scotland, the North West of England and London."
Stuart Jones, Managing Director of First Rail Open Access

Lumo says the London–Stirling service will run four daily return journeys, with journey times ranging between about five and a half hours and just over six hours. The trains will have one class of seating, with USB sockets, tray tables, free Wi-Fi, winged headrests, coat hangers and adjustable lighting controlled from the seat in front.

The new service should make Stirling Castle, the Old Town, the Wallace Monument and nearby Loch Lomond easier to reach without changing trains several times. It also gives people in Milton Keynes, Crewe, Carlisle and Motherwell another low-cost option for Scotland trips, while Preston gains extra London capacity and links into the wider route.

The useful bit is price and simplicity. A sub-£30 London–Stirling fare gives budget-conscious passengers another way to plan Scottish breaks without defaulting to flights or longer coach journeys. Availability will matter, as the cheapest tickets usually go first, but the route adds real competition on a busy corridor where affordable direct travel is always welcome.
