Canadian and U.S. Airlines Expand with New Routes in the Americas
In an ambitious expansion across the Americas, Canadian airlines Air Canada and WestJet, alongside U.S. giants Delta Air Lines and United Airlines, are set to introduce an array of new routes. These developments signal a robust growth in air travel connectivity within and from the Americas, catering to a diverse range of destinations worldwide.
According to AviationWeek, Air Canada is making headlines with its return to the Singapore market after a hiatus of over three decades. Starting April 3, the airline will connect Vancouver International Airport to Singapore's Changi International Airport with four weekly flights, utilizing the Boeing 787-9. This move positions Air Canada as the sole operator of nonstop flights between Canada and Singapore, marking a significant milestone in the airline's network expansion.
Additionally, Air Canada is set to launch year-round flights connecting Montréal to Madrid, Spain, beginning May 10. This service will compete with Air Transat's seasonal offerings, enriching the travel choices for passengers between these two vibrant cities.
WestJet is not far behind, announcing its first-ever route to Seoul, South Korea, from Calgary International Airport, commencing in May. This thrice-weekly service solidifies WestJet's presence in the Asia-Pacific region and commemorates the 60th anniversary of Canada-South Korea diplomatic relations.
The U.S. airlines are equally active, with Delta Air Lines and United Airlines expanding their transatlantic routes. Delta's new routes include connections from New York JFK to Munich and Naples, and from Minneapolis/St. Paul to Dublin. United Airlines is enhancing its European network with new routes from Newark to Faro, Portugal, and from Chicago O’Hare to Athens, Greece, starting in May.
JetBlue continues to grow its transatlantic offerings with new routes from Boston to Dublin and Paris, and from New York JFK to Dublin and Edinburgh. Frontier Airlines boosts its schedule with over 50 new and returning routes, while in South America, Avianca and JetSmart introduce significant new connections.
This wave of new routes by Air Canada, WestJet, Delta, and United showcases the airlines' commitment to broadening their global footprints. As these carriers bridge continents with their expanded networks, travelers can look forward to more convenient and diverse flight options, reflecting the dynamic nature of global travel and its recovery post-pandemic.
