By plane from Israel: what's happening in the aviation market and when improvements are expected
The prolonged conflict between Israel and Palestine has had a significant impact on international tourism. Eventually, several airlines are expected to resume flights from Israel in the coming months.
However, the number of flights is not expected to reach last year's figures. Several airlines are expected to start flying to Israel again in April, and in early May, several more leading carriers are expected to join them, as reported by Globes.
Meanwhile, competition on the routes will increase, and Israelis hope that this will lead to a reduction in fares, which are currently high. However, this does not mean a return to the usual level of transportation for travelers: airlines are returning cautiously and in smaller volumes than in previous years.
At the same time, local demand for flights is increasing as the Passover holiday approaches, but it is still significantly lower than before the conflict began last October. Inbound tourism, except for Jewish markets, is low, which will impact the schedule for the upcoming travel season.
According to local travel industry experts, there has been a significant reduction in the supply of low-cost flights. Additionally, there is a record demand for nearby destinations such as Athens, Batumi, Montenegro, Tbilisi, Bucharest, Rome, and Dubai.
Furthermore, it is specified that more foreign airlines will return to Ben Gurion Airport, but not as many as last year. Uncertainty and fear of the future are causing people to postpone travel until the last minute.
Experts also emphasize that prices will be higher than last year. They note that destinations like Athens, Budapest, and Amsterdam are expected to develop. "We can already see that ticket prices are rising rapidly, and we can expect the same for hotels," the experts say.
Moreover, demand for more distant destinations is also expected to grow, with an increase in the number of bookings for New York and Thailand.
Currently, El Al is the only airline operating several routes to the United States. According to some reports, the return of foreign airlines to Israel will help reduce fares. "The more airlines that return, the more opportunities there will be for connecting flights, which can further reduce ticket prices," said a source in the aviation industry.
Earlier, TravelWise reported on the resumption of flights from the American company United Airlines to Israel.
