Brussels plans to raise tax for tourists
Due to the financial deficit caused by quarantine restrictions, Brussels decided to raise the tourist tax for travellers. In this way, the city hopes to adjust expenses and increase profits that were lost during the COVID-19 pandemic.
It is noted that the cost of the tourist tax should rise by 1 euro per person. This will apply to the entire region, with the exception of camping, which will remain unchanged, Travel And Tour World reports.
It is reported that currently, guests of the city pay 4 euros per night for hotel accommodation and 3 euros for alternative housing options such as bed and breakfast, short-term rental and camping. According to the new adjustment, which is part of the simplification of tax rates in the Brussels-Capital Region, guests will pay €5 per night for hotel stays and €4 for other accommodations (except camping).
Thus, Brussels expects to receive an additional EUR 5 million in addition to the projected annual revenue of approximately EUR 26.8 million. The funds received should be used to compensate for losses associated with the energy crisis, as well as to support those affected by quarantine, including businesses operating in difficult conditions.
Earlier, TravelWise reported that Seville plans to introduce an additional tax for foreign tourists.
