British Ambassador to Ukraine dipped into icy water on the occasion of Epiphany and wished Ukrainians victory
On January 6, the British Ambassador to Ukraine Martin Harris took a dip in the Dnipro River together with the residents of the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, on the occasion of Epiphany. He addressed the Ukrainians on this bright holiday and wished them peace and victory over the Russian occupiers.
Martin Harris posted a video from the snowy capital of Ukraine with his greetings on X (formerly Twitter). In two languages, he greeted everyone who celebrated Epiphany.
The diplomat addressed his followers while standing by the bank of the river that divides Kyiv into two banks.
"Today is the Feast of Epiphany, which Ukrainians celebrate here on the Dnipro River in Kyiv. This is the place where Ukrainians were baptized for the first time a thousand years ago, and where Kyivan Rus became a Christian state. Today, Ukrainians pray for victory, peace and freedom for their land. I join them," the Ambassador said.
Martin Harris was wearing an embroidered shirt under his jacket, an element of Ukrainian national dress.
The video shows that Kyiv residents came to the shore alone and with their families, and rescuers were on duty in the water in case anyone needed help.
The ambassador dipped into the icy water three times and crossed himself, then greeted the people of the country, which has been defending itself from Russian attacks for almost two years, in Ukrainian.
That day, the temperature in Kyiv dropped to -10 degrees in the afternoon, but many Kyivites followed the tradition and took a dip in the Dnipro.
