Australian passport has become the most expensive in the world: how much does it cost
According to a published ranking of the world's most expensive documents, the Australian passport is the most expensive in the world. Moreover, it will rise in price by another $50.
Despite the fact that until recently an Australian passport cost $325 for ten years, it is expected that the passport fee will increase on July 1 next year. The price will increase by 15% to $373.75, writes Dailymail.
It is emphasized that the next most expensive passport after Australia is the Mexican passport, equivalent to $255. The third is the Swiss passport, where the document costs $210.
The news about the rise in passport prices disappointed many Australians. They criticized the authorities. In turn, the federal government claims that the increase in the cost of an Australian passport for three years is a one-time event.
"Funds from this one-off increase will be reinvested to make our passport systems and services more modern," a spokesperson said on Wednesday. It is emphasized that the global economy and pressure on suppliers have increased the cost of key components used in the production of passports.
At the same time, according to data from the insurance company William Russell, published earlier this year, the United States was recognized as the country with the fifth most expensive passport on the list with a price of $195. In turn, the United Kingdom took 13th place with a price of $150 for obtaining a passport from 38 countries.
It is added that the cheapest passport on the list was for those who live in the Czech Republic. Their passports cost only 40 dollars. In addition, Singapore is considered the best passport in the world, with visa-free access to 193 countries.
