Despite being in the midst of winter, many people are already contemplating their summer vacation plans and considering various factors that will influence their choices in 2024.

One such factor is the anticipation that 2024 will be one of the hottest years on record, as indicated by a UN report. A survey conducted by Booking.com on travel forecasts for 2024 revealed that 51% of vacationers believe that climate change will impact their travel decisions, as reported by News 18.

In light of this, water-based recreational tourism is expected to see growth, with 75% of respondents agreeing that being near water reduces their stress levels.

Another anticipated trend in 2024 is the increasing integration and prevalence of artificial intelligence (AI) in the tourism sector. More and more travelers are utilizing AI to discover destinations, plan trips, and organize itineraries. It is forecasted that future generations of travelers will rely extensively on AI for their travel arrangements.

Alcohol-free tourism is also poised to become prominent in the travel industry. Following the pandemic, there has been a decline in alcohol consumption, leading to a rise in detoxification vacations or visits to destinations offering non-alcoholic activities. While vacations are typically associated with relaxation, travelers are showing an increasing interest in hotels that offer non-alcoholic beverage options.

Industry experts anticipate that in 2024, travelers will seek a balance between their desire for luxury vacations and their financial constraints. Approximately half of vacationers plan to travel during the off-season, even if it means their children will miss school for a few days. Additionally, with the convenience of installment payments, around half of vacationers plan to utilize credit cards for their travel expenses.

Lastly, eco-travel is expected to be a significant trend in the 2024 tourist season. With a growing awareness of the impending climate crisis, travelers are opting for eco-friendly travel options and accommodations that prioritize environmental sustainability. This includes selecting hotels with reduced single-use plastic and choosing destinations with sustainable practices. Surveys indicate that three out of every five tourists wish to witness sustainability efforts in action, and 65% prefer destinations with green landscapes.
