An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 has occurred in Kazakhstan
On Monday, a powerful earthquake struck Kazakhstan near the city of Almaty. Local residents were evacuated from their homes, sirens sounded throughout the city, and local TV and radio channels informed the population about further steps.
The seismic activity occurred on March 4 at 11:22 a.m. 31 kilometers south of Almaty. This was reported in The Astana Times.
According to preliminary data, an MPV magnitude of 6.1 was recorded at the epicenter of the earthquake. At the same time, an intensity of 5 was recorded in the city of Almaty and the region.
The city's residents reportedly fled their homes en masse, and the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan began evacuating the local population and deployed an operational headquarters.
"All major city services have been seamlessly integrated into the emergency response. The city police department continues to operate as usual, schools, kindergartens and public gathering places remain open. The emergency medical service, as well as all multidisciplinary hospitals, including specialized institutions, children's hospitals and obstetric organizations, are operating on high alert," the press service of the city's akimat (mayor's office) said in a statement.
