Akasa Air Takes Off to Doha: A New Horizon for India-Qatar Air Travel
Indian low-cost carrier Akasa Air has marked a significant milestone in its expanding journey by launching its first international flight route between Mumbai, India, and Doha, Qatar. The service commenced on March 28, with Akasa Air offering four weekly flights utilizing its state-of-the-art Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.
The inaugural flight from Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport to Hamad International Airport in Doha was celebrated with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony, highlighting the importance of this new connection. The event was attended by distinguished guests, including the co-founder and senior vice-president international of Akasa Air, Neelu Khatri, who emphasized the route's role in fostering increased air travel demand between the two nations.
This historic flight was not only a testament to Akasa's rapid growth but also a showcase of empowerment, being operated by an all-female crew. The airline underscores the convenience of this new service, offering seamless connections to its extensive domestic network in Mumbai for passengers arriving from or departing to Doha.
With the inclusion of Akasa Air, the Mumbai-Doha route now sees a total of 38 weekly roundtrips operated by five carriers, introducing over 16,000 weekly seats into the market. Akasa Air's entry into this competitive landscape is set against seasoned players like Air India, IndiGo, Qatar Airways, and Vistara, signaling a new era of choices for travelers between India and Qatar.
Looking ahead, Akasa Air's ambition doesn't stop here. The airline has received approval to extend its wings further into the Middle East with upcoming routes to Kuwait, Jeddah, and Riyadh, promising a significant expansion of its international network in the near future.
Launching its first international route less than two years after beginning operations, Akasa Air has quickly risen as a significant player in the aviation industry. Having already served nearly 8 million passengers across more than 20 destinations, the airline's aggressive expansion strategy is further underscored by its recent order of 150 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, augmenting its current fleet and supporting its vision for a broader reach and enhanced connectivity.
As Akasa Air ventures beyond domestic borders, its growth trajectory promises to bring more competitive options and convenience to passengers, solidifying its position in the global aviation market.
