AirAsia Philippines Maintains Affordable Fares Amidst Level 6 Fuel Surcharge
AirAsia Philippines is taking steps to keep airfares affordable despite the high cost of fuel surcharges, especially as the airline prepares for the final month of summer travel. The surcharge has been at Level 6 for the past three months, resulting in additional costs ranging from PHP185 to PHP665 for domestic flights and from PHP610.37 to PHP949.51 for international flights. However, tickets bought earlier in January and February are not subject to these adjustments.
Despite the high fuel surcharge, AirAsia Philippines has shown strong performance, with a 91% seat occupancy rate in the first quarter, translating to 1.87 million seats sold. The airline has also reported a 104% increase in load factor, indicating robust demand for its services.
To help customers manage travel costs, AirAsia offers promotions like the LFG 20% off All Seats, All Flights, valid until April 28, encouraging travelers to plan ahead to save on airfare. AirAsia Philippines is also optimizing its airport operations by discussing with Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) the potential transfer of international flights from Terminal 3 to Terminal 1. This move aims to improve operational efficiency and reduce carbon emissions by shortening taxiing distances. The transfer is expected to enhance the customer experience with shorter transfer times between terminals.
In 2023, AirAsia Philippines transported over 1.72 million passengers to various international destinations. This year, the airline aims to double that number and increase flight frequencies on existing international routes to maintain its commitment to providing accessible and enjoyable travel options.
