AirAsia Philippines Leads with Empowerment: All-Female Flights Mark Women's Month
In a groundbreaking move for gender equality and inclusivity, AirAsia Philippines launched an all-female flight crew initiative, setting the stage for National Women’s Month and International Women’s Day celebrations. This pioneering step underscores the airline's commitment to championing women's roles in the aviation industry, highlighting the significant contribution of its female workforce, which constitutes 37% of its entire personnel.
AirAsia Philippines made history with flights Z2-223, Z2-224, Z2-420, and Z2-421, all piloted by Captain Jasmin Timola and First Officer Nicolette Trisha Castaneda, who balance their demanding careers with motherhood. The initiative extends beyond the cockpit, with Senior Cabin Crew Mhea Salvador and her team offering warm welcomes to passengers headed for leisurely retreats in Boracay and Bohol. This endeavor not only celebrates women's achievements but also aims to inspire others by proving that women excel even in domains traditionally dominated by men.
AirAsia CEO Ricky Isla emphasized the shift from outdated gender norms to a more inclusive workplace where women thrive in various operational roles, from engineering to customer service. The airline's actions reflect a deep-seated belief in women's capabilities and their indispensable role in ensuring the safety and satisfaction of passengers.
The celebration was further amplified with the introduction of "All Women (check-in) Lanes" at NAIA Terminal 2, a gesture of appreciation for the resilience and dedication of women. Additionally, a special Women’s Day PAA-Talk session at the AirAsia Red Point headquarters focused on driving inclusivity and championing equality, reinforcing the airline's role in female empowerment.
The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) lauded AirAsia Philippines for its initiatives, highlighting the positive impact on showcasing women's capabilities in aviation and beyond. PCW Officer-in-Charge, Atty. Khay Ann Magundayao-Borlado, praised the airline for providing a source of inspiration for young women and girls, encouraging them to explore careers in traditionally male-dominated fields.
AirAsia Philippines' celebration of International Women's Day goes beyond a single event; it's a testament to the airline's commitment to inclusivity and gender equality. Through actions like the all-female flight and dedicated check-in lanes, AirAsia not only honors the contributions of women but also sets a precedent for inclusivity across the aviation sector.
