A woman called a breakfast of macaroni, cheese and shrimp "the worst airplane food"
Nicola Easterby, from south-east London, decided to book a last-minute flight from the UK to Australia with her husband James to surprise her family with a visit for the Christmas holidays. But she was horrified by the food she was served on board the China Eastern flight. It was "terrible" macaroni and cheese, flavored with shrimp and "slippery" mushrooms.
The 29-year-old was trying to find tickets from London to Brisbane for less than £1,200 when she came across a cheap one-way ticket from Rome to Brisbane for £500. After a mini-vacation in Rome, the couple was accustomed to delicious Italian dishes, and then they were offered four "barely edible meals" from China Eastern," writes the WalesOnline website.
For their first dinner, Nicola and James received a "foul-smelling" tuna pie with vegetable couscous and pear ricotta, which she claims was the only "completely edible" part of their dinner. But their last breakfast was the most shocking, despite their "low standards," and consisted of "terrible" shrimp macaroni and cheese with "slimy" mushrooms that they couldn't eat more than a bite.
Nicola runs the Polka Dot Passport travel blog about travel and food. However, having bought inexpensive tickets, she didn't expect anything extraordinary from the meals provided, but she ended up being hungry.
"My husband ate everything, he was so hungry. At that time, he ate anything, but I couldn't. I've eaten very bad food on airplanes before, but this was by far the worst. Now we understand why they were so cheap," says Nicola. – "We were just in Rome and had such a great meal, it was like a roller coaster. We thought: "How bad can it be?"
Nicola, who runs the travel blog Polka Dot Passport, posted the video online with the caption: "I'm still SHOCKED by that breakfast at the end [skull and crossed bones emoji]."
On the second flight from Shanghai to Brisbane, things weren't as bad as the shrimp, macaroni, and cheese breakfast, but Nicola was relieved to be back in her dad's kitchen. Nicola said: "The first meal we ate on the second flight was probably the best meal we've ever had. It was noodles with chicken and edamame.
Nicola says she didn't complain to the airline because she knew what she was getting into, but it was funny how bad it was.
"I would say that if anyone is going to fly with China Eastern, just pack your own snacks," she advises. – "Honestly, we had the most spacious economy-class seats I've ever been in. But as for the food, after 28 hours of flying, the food made me very upset. After we landed, it was just great to be able to have a good meal with my family."
Earlier, Travel Wise wrote about the food you shouldn't order on an airplane. Since any hot food on an airplane is reheated food because it is prepared on the ground before takeoff, you can determine in advance which dish may turn out to be tasteless.
