Wet passport — ruined trip: a couple was denied boarding at Kuala Lumpur airport
A couple who were supposed to fly to Turkey for their honeymoon was denied boarding because of damaged documents. Muhammad Fikri Azman shared this unfortunate experience on TikTok.
In the video, the man said that this unfortunate incident occurred on December 17 at Kuala Lumpur International Airport. At that time, he and his wife, Noor Amiri Fatin Norazmi, were unable to board the plane due to heavy rain, which soaked his passport by 80%, VnExpress reports.
The man said that despite his attempts to dry the passport at the airport, the document still remained wet. According to Azman, his passport was rejected by an airline employee, not an immigration officer, which seemed wrong to him.
He turned to the Quora platform with a question about his situation and eventually received a response that the actions of the airline staff were in line with generally accepted international procedures, and therefore it was necessary to be especially careful about the condition of travel documents.
Finally, information on possible reasons for denial of boarding, in particular, due to water damage to the passport, can be found on the official website of such agencies as: Immigration and Checkpoints Authority of Singapore and the US Department of State.
In total, the couple spent 16,000 ringgit (USD 3,482) that they had been saving since their engagement in April 2023 due to this incident. Now they plan to realize their dream in 2024.
