A picturesque village, which is one of the best places to live in the United Kingdom
London is surrounded by many wonderful villages and towns where you can go for a long and pleasant weekend. However, some of them stand head and shoulders above the rest.
According to The Telegraph, the town of Beaulieu in the New Forest, Hampshire, was named one of the best and most luxurious places to spend a weekend in the country. Getting here is not easy: the trip starts from London's Waterloo station and takes three hours. Alternatively, you can drive about two hours by car," writes the MyLondon website.
When you arrive in the town of Beaulieu, one of the best things to do is undoubtedly a two-and-a-half-hour boat tour on the Beaulieu River. Tickets cost £35 per adult, with a maximum of eight people in the group.
The low tide cruise offers spectacular views of a variety of birds and other wildlife from the highest point of the river. What's more, the tour is designed to keep visitors at a safe distance from the wildlife so as not to cause any disturbance. Tea and cakes are also provided. Wild horse watching is another amazing thing to do while here.
About 5,000 wild horses have called the New Forest home for about 2,000 years. The reason why ponies are so protected in this area is that William the Conqueror made this area his private hunting reserve.
In return, the locals were given the right to graze their animals on the "common" pastures.
While you are there, you will also work up an appetite, and then you should definitely visit the Beaulieu Bakehouse. The cafe has everything from soup, pasta to avocado on toast.
It has 4.7 out of 5 stars on Google and is so delicious that one person wrote: "I've been coming here for years and wasn't really looking forward to the changes when the new management came in a few years ago. However, the owners of this cafe have preserved all the history and lovingly renovated it without losing the traditional atmosphere.
"The staff is fabulous, very polite and attentive. The owners are friendly and the food is great, especially the Bakehouse Brownie, which is to die for. Highly recommended."
How to get there?
It's not a quick trip to get here, as your trip will take two and a half hours, starting from London Waterloo Station. You take a 90-minute train to Brockenhurst, walk two minutes, and then take the #6 bus to Lymington. Then another 26 minutes by bus and you're there.
Where to stay?
The Montagu Arms Hotel is the perfect place to stay during your stay in Beaulieu. It describes itself as "the heart of Beaulieu village" and is immersed in beautiful greenery. Prices for a room per person start at £165.
Travel Wise previously wrote about the revival of the abandoned port town of Folkestone in the UK, which fell into decline a decade ago. However, thanks to the initiatives of an investor and a concerned community, the seaside town is reviving its resort potential.
