A man hijacks single-engine aircraft and flies for 100 miles in the US: He was detained aften landing
An Idaho man has been arrested on suspicion of hijacking an airplane. An incident happened in North Las Vegas, where an unknown person quietly boarded a single-engine aircraft that did not belong to him and flew as far as 100 miles.
According to ABC 7, the detainee was 40-year-old Damian Zukaitis, who was arrested in San Bernardino County. County sheriffs claim that he could have transported the stolen property across the state border.
Beer and other alcohol were found on the plane. The plane was found near Barstow-Daggett Airport in California.
The Air Force Search and Rescue Service notified the owner of the plane after the aircraft's emergency location transmitter went off. When the owner went to check on the plane, he did not find it in the hangar.
Police reportedly went to the scene and saw the suspect flying the plane on the roadway. He was heading back to the airport.
The pilot tried to escape from law enforcement but was successfully detained.
The value of the stolen plane is about $80,000.
