A Jetstar passenger complained that a flight attendant refused to provide him with a complimentary use of her pen
Experienced traveler Douglas Lasikerk, who has taken more than 1,000 flights, was shocked when a Jetstar flight attendant refused his request to borrow a pen to fill out his arrival card.
According to the passenger, he had never encountered such a situation, as reported by Yahoo News Australia. On February 25, during a flight from Sydney to Seoul, the tourist asked the flight attendant for a pen but was categorically refused.
"I asked, 'Are you serious?' and she replied, 'No, you can buy a pen for $5,'" Lasikerk told reporters.
The stewardess, admitting that she had a pen on her person, appealed to her right to refuse to lend it. She also suggested that the tourist use the pen at the airport after landing.
Lasikerk turned to another flight attendant who lent him a pen without any problems. "I told him that the woman at the back of the plane refused to give me a pen, and he was shocked," said Lasikerk.
While talking to the Jetstar flight attendant, a third airline employee approached them and explained that Jetstar crew members "are not required to provide a pen."
"She said [to me], 'It's at her discretion, so if she doesn't want to give you a pen, she doesn't have to,'" recalls Lasikerk.
Jetstar declined to comment on the incident but confirmed that it does not give out free pens but offers passengers to purchase them for $5.
Flight attendants carry pens that they use for work tasks.
As TravelWise previously reported, an American Airlines passenger tried to open the emergency exit door during a flight.
