A 16-year-old passenger assaulted a family member on board an Air Canada flight, forcing the crew to make an unscheduled landing
An Air Canada plane traveling between Toronto and Calgary made an unscheduled landing due to a disturbing incident on board. Reportedly, it was caused by a teenager attacking a family member.
Flight AC137 was diverted after an hour of flight to Winnipeg's James Armstrong Richardson Airport (YWG). According to Simple Flying, the 16-year-old passenger was detained by crew members and other travelers, and handed over to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police on the ground.
Both the attacker and his family member were injured in the fight, and both were taken to a local hospital for medical examination.
It remains unknown whether any other people were injured. It is also not reported why the conflict between the family members occurred.
The Canadian Royal Canadian Mounted Police were notified of the incident on board at 12:20 local time, and the plane landed in Winnipeg at 18:24 local time.
The underage passenger was disembarked, and the rest of the passengers flew on, three hours late.
