Dinosaurs, the Enchanted Highway, and fairy mermaids: The Week knows what else America can surprise you with.
The "big" city of Casey, Illinois
Arriving here, you will feel like you are in the book "Gulliver's Travels." The city has more than 30 giant objects, 12 of which break world records. Other items include a huge mailbox, a rocking chair, a barbershop, and a mousetrap. It all started in 2011 when resident Jim Bolin opened a sandwich bar. He needed a marketing ploy to attract customers. He decided to make the world's largest wind chime for his restaurant. This became a specialty not only for his restaurant but for the entire city.
Enchanted Highway, North Dakota
We can assure you that you have never seen such a road before! Its length is just over 51 kilometres and it is lined with metal structures. It is home to the largest sculpture made of metal, Geese in Flight. Stop to take a closer look at these huge works of art and be sure to take lots of photos. When will you be able to visit again?
Real mermaids, Weeki Wachee, Florida
If you love the sea and the underwater world, you should definitely visit this place! Mythical creatures called "mermaids" live here. In Weeki Wachee Springs State Park, the mermaids perform for visitors in a flooded auditorium, recreating classic works such as The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Andersen. The first performance took place in 1947. After the show, head over to Buccaneer Bay for a waterslide ride or a boat ride on the Weeki Wachee River.
Corn Palace, Mitchell, South Dakota
The name says it all: you will see a lot of corn here. It was founded in 1892 and has since become the main venue for all events in Mitchell. It hosts graduations, banquets, dances, and other events. The Corn Palace is renovated every year, a new theme is chosen for it, and workers use different varieties of corn, other grains, and local herbs to create new arrangements that stand outside the palace. So visit it as it's very corny here.
Superfrico's interactive dining room in Las Vegas, Nevada
You'll never know what or who will pass by your table. Superfrico is an interactive dining experience where guests dig into the meat while performers from the OPM show make their way through the neon-lit room. Within 20 minutes, you might see a saxophonist in cut-off shorts climb up on a table and start playing "Careless Whisper," or a juggler throwing glowing bowling pins high and many other interesting things. It sounds creepy, but it's fun!
Carousel Bar & Lounge in New Orleans, Louisiana
You will definitely want to visit it because the "trick" of this bar is that it is always in motion. It has been operating since 1949 and is the only establishment of this format in New Orleans. It takes about 15 minutes to complete one rotation, and you can easily pass the time while sipping a cocktail and enjoying the atmosphere. From Wednesday to Saturday, the lounge also hosts entertainment programmes.
Huge dinosaurs, Cabazon, California
Dinny the Dinosaur and Mr. Rex have always attracted tourists! They are made of steel and even managed to appear in several American movies. The most famous is Pee-wee's Big Adventure. Depending on the season, the pair can look festive. During Christmas, for example, the huge dinosaurs are transformed into Santa and Mrs. Claus, and Halloween costumes are created for them.
