5 security mistakes to avoid at Boise Airport
Boise Airport is expanding to meet the needs of its growing passenger population. Despite the dramatic increase in traffic, they continue to provide efficient services, on-time flights, and clean facilities.
Airport security is a key part of air travel, but travelers are often delayed by common mistakes that can cause delays and stress, which can be easily avoided with some training and knowledge, according to KidoTalk Radio.
According to Reader's Digest, these are the 5 most common mistakes made when going through airport security:
1. Failure to take off shoes or belt
It's easy to forget, but important items like shoes and belts should be removed before going through the scanner. Not only can these items potentially trigger a metal detector, but they also require additional time for security personnel to check, thus slowing down the queue. To avoid this, remember to take off your shoes and belt while you are standing in line and put them in the special trays.
2. Passing through the scanner with phones, jewelry, or keys
These items may trigger the scanner, resulting in additional checks and delays. Make sure you place all personal items, including your phone, jewelry, and keys, in the designated trays before you get to the front of the line.
3. Do not remove electronics or other items from your carry-on baggage
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requires that all electronic devices larger than a cell phone, such as laptops and tablets, be removed from your carry-on bag and placed in separate containers. If you forget to do this, your bag may have to be searched manually, resulting in further delays.
4. Don't forget about liquids in your hand luggage
Many passengers forget that they have liquids, gels, aerosols, creams, and pastes in their carry-on bags that exceed the TSA's 3.4-ounce limit. To avoid the inconvenience of having these items confiscated, remember the TSA's 3-1-1 rule: 3.4 ounces or less per container; one quart-sized clear plastic bag; one bag per passenger.
5. Don't take too much stuff
An overstuffed carry-on bag is a sure way to slow down your progress. According to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), passengers should only take the essentials in their carry-on bags. When security personnel have to rummage through overcrowded bags, it causes delays for everyone. So organize your belongings and make sure all items are easily identifiable.
