16 destinations for tourism that are usually underestimated
There are many places in the world that, although considered tourist destinations, are not often mentioned when planning a new trip. There is little information about some of them, and almost nothing at all about others.
BuzzFeed community members have shared their favorite and cheapest places to travel. Yahoo Life told what they like the most and what countries and places they recommend for visiting.
Turkey
User misterfrooby says that for most Americans, Turkey is a little-known country that deserves attention.
"Istanbul has such an incredible history, incredible food, and incredibly low prices. It's an incredible blend of European and Middle Eastern influences, and the people I met were very nice," the user says in his blog.
Anacapri
This Italian municipality located on the island of Capri is also not widely known, but it has attracted the attention of a user under the nickname typeo. He says that he traveled a lot and noticed that a little further away from the big cities you can have a much cheaper and better vacation, so this destination is perfect for traveling.
"I've stayed in some great hostels outside of the big cities for $20-30 a night (including Anacapri at the time). I even stayed at a resort that was still under construction on the Greek island of Naxos for $10. It wasn't open yet, but it had electricity and water, and half of the resort was finished - a block from the beach and very nice," wrote typeo.
Thailand
"I think Thailand is great.... Thailand is the most welcoming to other races or people in my opinion," said a user under the name amber8204. He added that he has family in Thailand and therefore had to worry about the cost of housing. He said: "Thailand is a great country to travel to. Great food, many people speak English, etc.".
Providence
According to awfulpenguin75, this state of Rio de Janeiro is a great cheap alternative to Boston. He says that: "There's plenty to see and do, and the food is unbeatable."
Cantabria
Cantabria is an autonomous community and province of the same name in northern Spain. A user with the nickname solongandthanksforallthefish1 notes that: "Cantabria in Spain is absolutely beautiful and much cheaper than Madrid (which I wasn't too impressed with anyway)."
Asturias
This is another destination in Spain that made it to this list. Asturias is much cheaper than Madrid and can easily attract travelers. User nataliemaya8 says that there are few tourists here, it has its own history and is surprisingly easy to walk around.
"For context, I had several open-heart surgeries, and my partner broke his ankle and had to use crutches to get around.) The only drawback is that it's a place where you can go for a few days, not for a long time," says nataliemaya8.
Jim Thorpe
Jim Thorpe is a small city in the US state of Pennsylvania, which is located about 1.5 hours from Philadelphia. The user applesauceandchops notes that it is "an artistic and historical place with great mountain views".
Columbus
"Last year I was in Columbus, Ohio, and I loved it. There are some cool museums and great food, and it's also a beautiful drive through the neighboring mountains. I spent about $60 a night for a great place on Airbnb," says ssketchator1.
BuzzFeed platform user Kristen Harris added that Columbus is a must-see for the local "Center for Science and Industry." She said: "They have a lot of cool interactive exhibits, as well as super interesting exhibitions to visit. And of course, I can't forget to mention the unicycle that you can ride 17 feet above the ground. If you are a member of one of their reciprocal museums, you can get a pretty good discount on tickets."
Romania
"I went for five weeks as part of [my experience as an undergraduate] archaeology field school, and everything was super affordable and everyone was so nice," said painsomniac.
India
"Bargaining in stores leads to great deals," said a user named fizzingwhizbee713, talking about the benefits of tourism in India.
The platform user said: "As someone who travels to India quite often, you can get a five-star hotel with a fancy breakfast for around $40 a night. I have bought beautiful and high-quality saris for $20 or less."
Poland
Recalling a trip to Poland, a user with the nickname linkamalinka said: "There are so many beautiful places in Poland and the food is amazing."
Prague
This destination was noted by the user kdq1001. He notes that: "Even though it's a big city, the accommodation, especially the food, was very cheap, but not tasty."
Portugal

South America
Thehallouminati liked vacationing in South America. The platform user notes that: "Many countries in South America are affordable. I spent a month in Peru and Ecuador and found very cheap hotels and food."
Brazil
The user typeo wrote about his trip to Brazil and noted that it is a fairly affordable country that can offer interesting vacations and delicious food.
"I haven't traveled for a long time, but I remember that Brazil was inexpensive, especially with food. In Rio, you could eat in the best restaurants and it cost 1/4 of the price you would pay in a good restaurant in the US," said typeo.
Belize
This country, which is located in Central America, is a little-known destination for tourism, but is able to surprise and share with tourists its historical heritage and picturesque nature.
"Belize! My husband is from there (and later my daughter, of course), but we love it there. He was born and raised there, and you can get around quite inexpensively, and the food is great, and it's beautiful," disheleveddreamer21 told us about her experience.
