IGLTA Foundation Reveals Impact of State Policy on LGBTQ+ Tourism

The IGLTA Foundation, associated with the International LGBTQ+ Travel Association, has released its latest survey findings in a report titled "State Policy Impact on LGBTQ+ Tourism", where specifically focus is on Florida; the report sheds light on the repercussions of the state's anti-LGBTQ+ legislation on tourism.

Florida's recent anti-LGBTQ+ laws serve as a poignant example, underscoring the ongoing efforts required for global LGBTQ+ inclusivity and highlighting how such measures deter LGBTQ+ travelers. The survey reveals that a significant 80% of LGBTQ+ respondents from the US perceive Florida as somewhat or very unwelcoming.

The impact on business and meeting travel to Florida is substantial, with nearly half of LGBTQ+ meeting planners globally and in the US expressing reluctance or outright refusal to book meetings or business travel due to these policies. However, despite these challenges, there remains resilience within the LGBTQ+ community. Two-thirds of US LGBTQ+ respondents and 59% of global respondents express willingness to visit LGBTQ+ welcoming cities within states with anti-LGBTQ+ laws, emphasizing a commitment to destinations advocating for inclusivity.

The findings underscore a fundamental principle: safety and genuine commitment to LGBTQ+ rights are paramount for LGBTQ+ travelers. Destinations with inclusive policies are prioritized, while those with discriminatory practices are avoided. Genuine support for LGBTQ+ rights, particularly transgender inclusion, holds significant sway over performative gestures.
