The Ferry Tavern in Penketh, Warrington, located on an island strip created on Fiddler's Ferry, is a great attraction for many tourists. In particular, here you can see seals and even porpoises jumping out of the water from time to time.

This special pub has earned a reputation as the perfect place to sit outside in the sunshine and watch the aquatic mammals. The pub has been providing refreshments for thirsty travelers for the past 250 years, as reported by The Mirror.

The pub's beautiful setting and large outdoor seating area attract visitors who are fascinated by the animals that appear in the nearby ponds.

In recent years, this pub has received many awards, including the Best Community Pub in 2020. In addition, it is also ranked at the top of guides for its first-class range of craft ales.

The owners are Andy and Jade, who live in the pub with their two children, Charlie and Jack. Jade grew up in the pub after her parents first took over the building back in 1992.

"Living where we do is all our son Charlie has ever known, and the thought of ever leaving breaks his heart - he loves watching the seals in the river. It's far from the main road, and we just enjoy living here," the owners say.

A popular canal trail runs by the pub, where many cyclists and pedestrians stop to rest. Many of them stop at the pub for a refreshing drink to take a break after a long bike ride or hike.

Since the couple moved into the property in 2005, they have been fascinated by the history of the pub and have been able to identify all the owners since 1762. Andy said: "The history here is incredible. It used to be the main crossing of the River Mersey, and it's called the Ferry because the first licensee in 1762 was a ferryman."

It turns out that the establishment was opened in the same year as the canal, so there's that. The owners believe that it was obviously someone who was savvy in business, as unloading cargo was hard work, so the pub was always full of thirsty workers.

Additionally, locals also leave very positive reviews about this establishment on TripAdvisor. "This pub is an absolute gem of a place. A wonderful old pub with a warm, friendly atmosphere. Fish and chips and a selection of real ales are just right," writes one reviewer.

"We often walk back and forth to experience the great atmosphere. We've been here for thirty years and have never gotten tired," wrote another.
